The University of Tübingen is establishing the Tübingen Center for Advanced Studies (TüCAS) and invites applications for the

Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker Endowed Professorship (W3) in the History and Philosophy of Science 
with an interdisciplinary orientation, to start at the earliest opportunity. The successful candidate is expected to represent the field of the History and Philosophy of Science in research and teaching. Alongside philosophical considerations, this will include historical, sociological, and social issues in science arising from the challenges presented by a globalized and technology-dependent world. The successful candidate is expected to have a broad-based subject profile and a strongly
international orientation.

The holder of this professorship will be tasked with setting up and managing TüCAS as a multidisciplinary institution at which postdocs and guest researchers from around the world come together. The successful candidate will organize a high-quality program of workshops and conferences at TüCAS, intensify scholarly interaction between the University of Tübingen and the Tübingen Research Campus, and encourage networking among international guest researchers working in Tübingen, as well as communicate research ideas out into the wider community. The teaching load is 2-2 (German system: 4 SWS); courses can be taught in English and/or German.

Formal requirements for appointment are an excellent Habilitation or equivalent postdoctoral qualification (‘second book’), as well as documented teaching experience. The holder of this professorship is expected to develop TüCAS as an institution and give it a high international profile. Along with a record of outstanding research, international experience, integrative
and administrative skills, and a willingness to manage multidisciplinary projects are expected.
