Cadenza International Summer Music School, 16-23 July 2016, UK

Publish Date: Mar 12, 2016

Deadline: Jul 01, 2016

Event Dates: from Jul 16, 2016 12:00 to Jul 23, 2016 12:00

Cadenza International Summer Music School is now in its twenty second year and has many special qualities.

Teaching provision is generous and fair and, unusually, there is time to focus on both solo repertoire and daily chamber groups. A minimum of three individual lessons on each student's first study instrument is guaranteed, along with pianist rehearsals and concert opportunities.

Everyone plays in at least one chamber group which is coached not less than every second day. Repertoire plans can be made in advance, especially for pianists. Groups and partnerships can evolve flexibly during the week - the coaching timetable is arranged in two day cycles by mutual consent.

Cadenza prides itself on a friendly and inclusive atmosphere, and unconditional support and encouragement for every student regardless of level. Partly this stems from a large age-range - eleven year olds under the careful supervision of two Matrons through the teens to undergraduates, postgraduates, professional and amateur adults. We have fun at every level - from treasure hunts to late evening mixed staff/student quartet reading.
But the real inspiration - eye opening, sometimes even lifechanging- is the quality of the formal musical interactions.

The Purcell School is in delightful grounds in Bushey, Herts (North London). Facilities for music are exceptional; there are many Steinway grand pianos and each piano student will have a Yamaha U3 in their bedroom.

The full address is The Purcell School, Aldenham Road, Bushey, Hertfordshire, WD23 2TS. By car it's very close to Junction 5 of the M1. If you fly, go into Central London, take an underground tube to London Euston, then an overland train to Watford Junction, then walk or £5 taxi. From Luton, you can get a stopping train to Elstree and Boreham, which is very easy, but then the Taxi is £25.
