Postdoctoral Researcher or Scientific Group Leader (m/f/d)
The Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher or Scientific Group Leader (m/f/d) in Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy at the Atomic Scale.
In collaboration between the Nanoscale Science Department headed by Prof. Klaus Kern and the Fellow Group of Prof. Jörg Wrachtrup we develop novel imaging techniques based on quantum sensors like the nitrogen vacancy center in diamond to explore single spin/quantum phenomena and to address the structure of individual biomolecules.
The successful applicant will develop/establish advanced methods for atomic scale imaging using electron and nuclear spin resonance. The group is equipped with a state-of-the-art cryogenic NV magnetometer operating in ultrahigh vacuum. With the single NV center located on the apex of a fabricated diamond AFM cantilever, the quantum sensor can be positioned with highest accuracy and stability. In combination with the currently enhanced field strength (~1T), ESR and NMR experiments on single molecules and atoms will become possible, to determine the magnetic properties and spin interactions with highest energy and spatial resolution.
We are seeking an enthusiastic person, who completes and advances our group. Successful applicants should hold a PhD in Physics or Chemistry, be highly self-motivated and team oriented. Strong communication and organizational skills are expected. Fluent written and spoken communication in English is essential, and German would be advantageous. We expect prior knowledge of NV magnetometry and/or scanning probe microscopy.
The position is a full-time position; depending on experience of the applicant on the level of postdoctoral researcher or scientific group leader. Payment and benefits are according to German TVÖD for 2 years initially with the possibility for renewal.
