Perspectives in Neuroaesthetics: Exploring different scientific approaches and views of investigating aesthetic experiences in the human brain
You may not be aware of it but your perception is guided by an aesthetic sense. As a human you’ve probably noted the physical attractiveness of people around you and as a PhD student you have most likely been pleased by the looks of a pretty programming code or the elegance of a scientific theory. This summer school wants to dig into these experiences more deeply and investigate how these aesthetic experiences can be studied scientifically with a special focus on the brain.
The Vienna Doctoral School in Cognition, Behaviour and Neuroscience is organizing a Summer School on “Perspectives in Neuroaesthetics: Exploring different scientific approaches and views of investigating aesthetic experiences in the human brain”.
The offer
An interdisciplinary COBENE summer school connecting like-minded, enthusiastic students on different curricular levels, providing cutting-edge knowledge on methods and topics in the multifaceted field of Neuroaesthetics, establishing international research connections. The chance to delve into the field of Neuroaesthetics, in a comprehensible and relatable way for interested scholars from a range of disciplines and with varying backgrounds.
What and Where?
The Summer School will take place in London, UK. London is at the present moment a hub for neuroaesthetic research with several interdisciplinary labs devoted specifically to this area of research. Participants will visit four of those labs in London. There will be a meeting with researchers at the forefront of the scientific discipline and get familiar with equipment and experimental set-ups. In each lab, a researcher from the lab will give a theoretical introduction to the topic and the specific field of research their lab focuses on. Giving the opportunity to meet researchers at the forefront of the scientific discipline and get familiar with the equipment and experimental set-ups.

The call is open for early stage researchers. Please send your application with a letter of motivation (1 page) and a CV (max 2 pages) to neuroaesthetics.cobene@univie.ac.at The fee is € 200 including accommodation. Travel costs are not included in the fee. Official VDS CoBeNe PhD fellows are eligible for reimbursement.
