Postdoc - Cryo-EM of membrane proteins in situ

A postdoctoral position is available in group of Misha Kudryashev at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics and the Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Science of Goethe University in Frankfurt on Main, Germany. The project will focus on determining structures of voltage-gated ion channels under a membrane potential. For this we will use subtomogram averaging from cryo electron tomograms similarly to our previous report (Kudryashev et al, Structure 2016, 24(1):165-70), only with better hardware and software.

Your profile

An ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about structure and functions of proteins, have experience in membrane protein biochemistry, biophysics, electrophysiology and a motivation to work in a multidisciplinary environment. Exposure to cryo-EM is an advantage but is not required.

Our offer

The Max Planck Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt is one of the top places in the world to study structure of membrane proteins. The institute departments combine cryo electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, biophysics and theoretical methods to gain insights into structure and function of fundamentally important biological processes. The Kudryashev group has access to excellent laboratory facilities, high-performance computing infrastructure (large CPU and GPU-clusters) and high-end electron microscopes (2xFEI Titan Krioses, FEI Polara, FEI F30 and JEOL 3200FSC) all equipped with direct electron detectors, one Krios has a Volta Phase Plate.
Frankfurt on Main is a vibrant international city with high living quality. Working language is English.

Your application

The Max Planck Society aims at increasing the percentage of women in research positions and strongly encourages women to apply. The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer and particularly welcomes applications from individuals with disabilities.

Candidates should send a single pdf-file including a one-page motivation letter, a CV and names of two principal investigators from whom reference letters can be obtained to misha.kudryashev@biophys.mpg.de.
