The 1st ENQA Young Scholar Award for excellent scholarship in European queer anthropology

The ENQA Young Scholar Award is awarded bi-annually by the European Network for Queer Anthropology (ENQA) to a young scholar honoring outstanding work in European queer anthropology that critically engages historical and/or current understandings of gender and sexuality and their socio-cultural implications. The winning submission will be considered for publication in Social Anthropology/Anthropologie Sociale, the journal of the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA). 

ENQA serves as a professional network for academics and scholars who work on sexual and gender diversity from a queer anthropological perspective and aims to promote queer ethnographic research, communication, and teaching on sexual and gender diversity. ENQA also strives to serve the interests of anthropologists who self-identify in terms of queer sexualities and genders, however defined, in offering resources, support, and community. ENQA-membership is open to anyone scholarly working on and academically engaged with queer issues in a European context.

Submissions for the ENQA Young Scholar Award are encouraged from graduate students at MA or PhD level. To be considered for the award, all submitted work should have been completed between 2016 and 2017 while the applicant was enrolled as a graduate student. Submitted papers may be based on empirical, theoretical, or historical work.

Submissions should be sent electronically in the form of a Word (*.doc) or RTF (*.rtf) attachment to  by the 1st of December, 2017. Please include in your email a statement showing intent to enter the 1st ENQA Young Scholar Award competition. Please also include your name, address, department and university, and email address in the body of your email; also please clearly indicate your graduate status at time of completion of the submitted material.

Submissions will be assessed by an award committee according to their relevance for and contribution to European queer anthropology. The award will be presented at the ENQA business meeting during the EASA conference in Stockholm 14-17th of August 2018.
