Europeana Transcribathon Campus 2017
The Europeana Transcribathon Campus 2017 will bring people together, who are passionate about transcription, data enrichment and linking of various historical sources, institutional as well UGC for learning, knowledge sharing and entertainment.
The focus will be on sources from the First World War as made available by the Europeana 1914-1918 and Europeana Newspapers projects. During the event the newly Europeana 1914-1918 thematic collection site will also be launched.
The three day event will be organised by Europeana and Facts & Files and hosted by the Berlin State Library.
This event will consist of two main elements:
- Transcribathon competition
Cross-generational and interdisciplinary teams compete with each other on the transcription and enrichment of documents from Europeana 1914-1918 such as letters, diaries, newspapers and photos. The teams have a limited timeframe to work and present their results. An international jury will award prizes in the following categories:
- Transcription (Quantity and Quality)
- Enrichment (focus newspapers and other annotations)
- Presentation
Experts from different fields will be present and can be of assistance.
In addition to the competition a number of talks, a podium discussion and screenings of WWI films will take place.
- Workshops & information sharing
Wikisource/Wikimedia
One of the aims of the event is to initiate and explore ways how to link sources, enriched data and transcriptions from Europeana 1914-1918/Transcribathon to Wikisource. Members of the Wikisource/Wikimedia community are invited to take part as team(s) in the Transcribathon competition to explore existing transcriptions and sources to incorporate them into Wikisource. These activities will be counting for the Wikimedia Challenge 1914-1918.
