University of Oslo Researcher in Molecular Biology, Norway

Publish Date: Jun 21, 2016

Deadline: Aug 01, 2016

Researcher in Molecular Biology

Position as researcher is available at Department of Biosciences.

A three-year position as researcher, on a project funded by the Norwegian Cancer Society, is available in the group of prof. Pål Ø. Falnes.  Within the framework of the position duties may be assigned.

Project description

The research in the group focuses primarily on unravelling the function of various demethylases, methyltransferases and hydroxylases from multicellular eukaryotes. These enzymes perform several different cellular functions, such as repair of DNA and RNA, and modification of RNA and proteins. A broad range of experimental strategies are used to characterize these enzymes, including biochemical studies of recombinant proteins and functional studies in cell cultures and gene-targeted organisms. The project will focus on the functional characterization of novel human protein methyltransferases (See e.g. Kernstock et al. Nature Commun., 2012, 3, #1038).

Qualifications

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these positions will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in molecular biology, cell biology, or biochemistry.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher with broad and extensive experience within one or more of the following areas: molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, protein chemistry. Prior experience with protein-modifying enzymes will be considered a strong advantage.

A good command of English is required.
