The Sea: Above and Below - Juried Photography Exhibition 2016

Publish Date: Aug 01, 2016

Deadline: Aug 14, 2016

About

All life comes from the sea, and sometimes in August in Southern California it seems like all life has returned to the sea, but no matter, because 1650 comes not to bury the sea, but to praise it! That's right, this month we hit the oceans high and low as we tackle both the underwater and above water aspects of the mighty waters of the world. So whether you prefer to shoot sandy beaches at sunset or coral reefs below the surface, moonlit seascapes with crashing waves on rocks or schools of angelfish hurrying through the salty waters below; this month 1650 has got you covered, not in a rub sunscreen on your back kind of way, but rather with the sea of possibility as we go... ABOVE AND BELOW: THE SEA!

Approximately fifty works will be chosen from submitted photos to be included in the THE SEA group photography exhibition at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles.

We offer free matting and framing for accepted photographs that fit our pre-cut mat sizes for the duration of the exhibition. We have a variety of frames and mats to choose from.

We will also print your photo for a nominal fee if you are accepted into the show and would prefer not to mail a print.

Awards

Best In Show, 2nd Place and 3rd Place will be awarded and posted online after the show opening. Award winning photos will be featured on the show page and Best In Show winners will have a small portfolio of their work (up to 10 images) featured in our 1650 Spotlight gallery of photographic excellence.

All Awards winners will also be featured in our 1650 Gallery newsletter, which is broadcast via email to our mailing list. Getting the word out about artists we're excited about helps you do more great work, helps us show more great work, and helps keep the often insular world of fine art photography more diverse and vibrant.

Digital File Submission

We accept digital files through our online submission form. All image files should be submitted as JPGs. Your submission images should be smaller than than 1 MB each to conserve space on our server. A good rule of thumb is to set the image resolution to 72 ppi and keep the long side of the image under 1024 pixels. Lightroom has an image export setup already configured for this. If you use the Lightroom export setup you can also rename your images at the same time to ensure proper titling and credit on our website; your files should be titled as follows: YourImageTitle_by_firstName_lastName.jpg

Also, if possible, please put the title of your photo in the caption metadata of your digital file. It should formatted like this: "Photo title" by Artist Name.

These simple guidlines make sure your photo does not wind up as "untitled" when the competition results are published on our website.

If you have any questions about submitting digital files, please contact us at 1650gallery@gmail.com.
