The Caterpillar Story for Children Prize 2016

Last year’s inaugural winner, Richard J. Jones, received Ђ1,000 for his story 'Let's Say I Am', which was published in the winter issue of The Caterpillar. You can also read it in the Irish Times.
We're very excited to announce that the fabulously talented and award-winning author of The Jam Doughnut that Ruined My Life, Pants are Everything and Socks are Not Enough, Mark Lowery, will be judging this year's prize. 
All you need do to apply is send us your original, unpublished story of no more than 1,500 words – on any theme or subject, as long as it is appropriate for 7–11 year olds.

Eligibility

The Prize is open to anyone.
Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must never have been published, self-published, published online or broadcast. You can enter as as many stories as you like.

Fees

Entry fee is Ђ12 per story 
Online payment should be made to enquiries@thecaterpillarmagazine.com via PayPal.
Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to ‘The Moth Magazine Ltd.’, with the sender's name and address on the back. Postal orders can only be accepted from Ireland and the UK. We will accept dollar and sterling cheques. Postal entries can also be paid in cash (either in US dollars, Sterling or Euros at the current exchange rate).

Receipt of entry

Enclose a stamped addressed postcard marked 'ACKNOWLEDGEMENT' if you require acknowledgement of receipt of your postal entry (include international reply coupon if entering from overseas). Online entries are confirmed by the email receipt of your payment to PayPal.

Copyright

Worldwide copyright of each entry remains with the author, but The Caterpillar will have the unrestricted right to publish the winning stories in the winter 2016 issue and any relevant promotional material.

Notification

All entrants to the competition will be notified by email by 1 November 2016, including those who have not been successful. The winners will be announced in December, to coincide with publication of the winter issue of The Caterpillar.  

Judging

The judge's decision is final and no individual correspondence can be entered into.

Prizes

1st prize of Ђ500 plus a 2-week retreat at The Moth Artists' Residence, 2nd prize Ђ300, 3rd prize Ђ200.
Entry implies acceptance of all the rules. Failure to comply with the entry requirements will result in disqualification.
