The Caterpillar Poetry Prize 2016

The prize is for a single poem written by an adult for children (aged 7–11). What we are looking for is a stand-out poem to which we can award a prize of Ђ1,000 to celebrate the richness of children’s writing. The Prize is open to everyone over the age of 18. The work must be original and previously unpublished. The entry fee is Ђ12 per poem and you can enter as many poems as you like.
 
Or send your poem along with an entry form (downloadable HERE) and a cheque or postal order made payable to 'The Moth Magazine Ltd' to: The Caterpillar, Ardan Grange, Milltown, Belturbet, Co. Cavan, Ireland. And please read the rules before you enter! The competition will be judged anonymously by the publishers of The Caterpillar and The Moth, Rebecca O’Connor and Will Govan.   

 

 
 

Eligibility

The Prize is open to anyone over the age of 18. Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must never have been published, self-published, published online or broadcast. You can enter as as many poems as you like. There is no line limit. 

Fees

Entry fee is Ђ12 per poem. Online payment should be made to enquiries@thecaterpillarmagazine.com via PayPal. Cheques and money orders should be made payable to ‘The Moth Magazine Ltd.’, with the sender's name and address on the back. Postal entries can also be paid in cash (either in US dollars, Sterling or Euros at the current exchange rate).

Receipt of entry

Enclose a stamped addressed postcard marked 'ACKNOWLEDGEMENT' if you require acknowledgement of receipt of your postal entry (include international reply coupon if entering from overseas). Online entries are confirmed by the email receipt of your payment to PayPal.

 

Copyright

Worldwide copyright of each entry remains with the author, but The Caterpillar will have the unrestricted right to publish the winning poem in the summer 2016 issue and any relevant promotional material.

Notification

All entrants to the competition will be notified by email by 30 April 2016, including those who have not been successful. The winner will be announced in June, to coincide with publication of the summer issue of The Caterpillar.  

Judging

The judges' decision is final and no individual correspondence can be entered into.

Prizes

A single prize of Ђ1,000 will be awarded to the best poem. Entry implies acceptance of all the rules. Failure to comply with the entry requirements will result in disqualification.
