About the university
Uppsala University is an international research university focused on the development of science and education. Our most important assets are all the individuals who with their curiosity and their dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting work places. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6,5 billion.
The Department of Medicinal Chemistry conducts research and teaching in the field of drug discovery. More information about the department and its activities can be found the official page of the university. The Department has a total of about 85 employees.
Description of the field
The Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) is a collaboration between four universities in Stockholm and Uppsala: Stockholm University, the Karolinska Institute, the Royal Institute of Technology, and Uppsala University. The SciLifeLab is a national centre for large-scale biosciences with a focus on health and environmental research. The centre combines advanced technical know-how and state-of-the-art equipment with a broad knowledge in translational medicine and molecular biosciences.
SciLifeLab Drug Discovery & Development Platform (SciLifeLab DDD) was established in 2014. SciLifeLab DDDP employs around thirty highly motivated scientist, many with industrial experience of drug discovery. The mission is to support swedish academic researchers in developping drug candidates.
The Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Division of Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Uppsala University, is now recruiting a preparative medicinal chemist to a temporary position to be placed at SciLifeLab DDD, Medicinal Chemistry Lead Identification Facility, in Uppsala.
Duties
Major duty is to perform experimental work. Applicants will primarily be involved in the synthesis, isolation and characterization of novel bioactive compounds in several parallel projects at the DDD facility and to be involved in the daily maintenance of laboratory equipment. We are working in projects together with researchers from the DDDP and Academia.
Required qualifications
A PhD in organic/medicinal chemistry. Documented expertise of successful work within the area of preparative synthetic chemistry, as documented by publications and/or patents.
