HG Wells Short Story Competition 2016

The theme for this year’s competition is SPACE in its broadest interpretation.

Founded by the world-renowned BBC Aeronautics Correspondent Reg Turnill and his wife,Margaret, to celebrate the life and works of HG Wells and encourage creative writing,especially among the young, the prestigious HG Wells Short Story Competition offers generous Senior and Junior prizes and free publication of all shortlisted entries in a quality, professionally published paperback anthology (and Kindle version).

Categories

There are two categories:

  • authors 21 years of age and under with a prize of £1000. (Entry is free).
  • authors aged 22 years and above with a prize of £250 (entry £10 or £5 with student id).

Prizes

The Margaret and Reg Turnill Prize: £1000 (for writers aged 21 and under)
The Grand Prize: £250 (for writers aged 21 and over)

Eligibility

The competition is open to anyone.

Entry

All entries must relate to the theme for this year’s Competition: SPACE. All entries must be submitted by midnight on Tuesday 19th July 2016. Entrants must read the Competition Rules before submitting their story/stories. Please send a separate form for each entry.

Submission

Entries should be submitted electronically to hgwstory@gmail.com. Entries submitted by post should be sent to H G Wells Short Story Competition 20 Brockman Road, Folkestone, Kent CT20 1DL.

All submissions must be accompanied by a completed entry form. All submissions should be the writer’s original work.

Entry Fees

Aged over 21 on 17/07/16: £10 per entry (£5 students accompanied with copy of student id)
Under 21 on 17/07/16: no entry fee

HGWSSC is a non-profit making organisation. The entry fees go towards the running costs of the Competition.
