Undergraduate and Postgraduate composers are invited to participate in the second edition of the Composition Summer School, held from September 8th to 14th, 2016 at neimënster (historic Abbaye de Neumünster) with composers Isabel Mundry, Marcel Reuter and the Luxembourgish ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin.

The Composition Summer School - the only composition master class held in Luxembourg - is a great opportunity to meet music professionals and to spend a week working in an inspiring and creative environment in the heart of Luxembourg! The master class will consist of lectures, one-to-one tutorials and workshops with the musicians. All selected composers will be asked to write a new piece for United Instruments of Lucilin, which will be performed during a public concert at the end of the Summer School.

The courses will be taught in English, French and German. The participation fee is 350 € and includes accommodation at neimënster.

Marcel Reuter

Marcel Reuter (Luxembourg *1973) is a composer and pianist who focuses on chamber music, a genre that reflects his idea of music as an intimate medium of communication.

His works have been performed at some major music festivals (Salzburger Festspiele, Wien modern, Aspekte Salzburg, Klangspuren Schwaz, Gaudeamus, Ars musica) as well as in Berlin (Konzerthaus, Deutsche Oper), Buenos Aires, Hongkong, London, Montreal, New York, Rome, Tokyo.

They have been commissioned by institutions such as Luxembourg Philharmonie, Vienna Konzerthaus, Netherlands Vocal Laboratorium, United Instruments of LucilinQuartet New GenerationKMVL.

Marcel Reuter has held teaching positions at the University of Music in Vienna (2002-2007) and the Conservatoire du Nord in Luxembourg (since 2007). He has lectured at Music Academy Sarajevo, Musikhochschule Freiburg among others.

Isabel Mundry

Isabel Mundry (Germany *1963) studied composition with Franck Michael Beyer and Gösta Neuwirth at the Hochschule der Künste as well as electronic music, musicology and history at the Berlin Technische Universität. Between 1991 and 1994, she taught at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and furthered her studies in Frankfurt with Hans Zender. Later, she researched at the IRCAM in Paris.

After Berlin and Frankfurt, she now teaches composition at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich.

She has held master classes in Darmstadt, Wien, Royaument, Copenhagen, Tiflis, San Sebastian, Madrid, Seoul, Akiyoshidai (Japan) and Boston. She was Composer in Residence at theLucern Festival, Sächsischen Staatskapelle Dresden, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Biennale Lyon, Takefu-Festival (Japan)Tong Yong-Festival (Korea) and Menuhin-Festival Gstaad. She is a member of the Akademie der Künste Berlin, of the Bayrischen Akademie, and of the Schönen Künste München.

United Instruments of Lucilin

The ensemble for contemporary music United Instruments of Lucilin was founded in 1999 by a group of passionate Luxembourgish musicians. It’s the first chamber music ensemble in Luxembourg dedicated to the promotion and creation of works from the 20th an 21st century.

The heart of Lucilin consists of string quartet, piano and percussion, while wind and other instruments are invited according to the size of the projects. Lucilin is a creation platform gathering interpreters, composers and artists of every board. its aesthetic horizon covers all fields of contemporary creation, from the Second Vienna School to the minimalists, new generation and also improvised and electronic music.

United Instruments of Lucilin touch their audience not only by acoustic sensations, but also in an intellectual and visual way: traditional concerts alternate with music theatre, light dramaturgy and scenic performance of compositions, or introduction and live discussion with the composers.
