Canon Female Photojournalist Award 2016 supported by Elle Magazine

For the sixteenth year, Canon and Images Evidence will present the Canon Female Photojournalist Award. For the third time, the award is being supported by ELLE Magazine.

This year (2016) Canon, world leader in imaging solutions, in association with Images Evidence, wish to give a female photojournalist an award of 8 000 euros, endowed by Canon. The Award is also supported by Elle Magazine.

Jury

The jury, which will be made up of people in the profession, will give the Award based on the professional qualities of the applicant and the relevance and originality of the project. The jury’s decision is final and will be carried by majority vote after due deliberation. The jury can decide not to give the Award if it considers that none of the applications is worthy of it.

Entrants are judged on both previous work and plans for a future project.

Prize

The prize (€8000) will be presented during the evening show on Saturday, September 3, and the project presented in Perpignan at the 2017 festival. An exhibition of the 2015 winner, Anastasia Rudenko, will feature her report on mental illness in Russia as part of the 2016 program.

Application conditions

The conditions are as follows: - applicants must be female - applicants must have completed at least one photo-reportage (published or unpublished) - applicants must be professional photojournalists - applicants must be able to write and speak in French or English The application dossier will include the following items:

  1. a signed application form,
  2. a copy of the applicant’s identity card or passport,
  3. an affidavit stating that the candidate is a professional photojournalist (attestation of honor written by the photographer or from an agency or from a newspaper)
  4. a curriculum vitae,
  5. a letter in support of the application including a description of the photoreportage project (maximum 1 typed page). This letter must remain anonymous and must not contain anything that would allow the candidate to be identified.
  6. a projected budget for the photo-reportage project for which the Award is to be used if obtained. If the financing of the project is to be extended to other partners, these must be approved by Canon and Images Evidence who reserve the right not to cite them,
  7. a photo-reportage in black and white or colour: between 10 and 20 pictures
  8. copies of publications if possible (maximum 3). Books are not accepted.

To make it short: the candidate will have to send by FTP, a compressed general file folder (.zip) entitled: CanonAwardPhotographerName (example: CanonAwardLeroy). This folder should contain the images and the various elements enumerated above. We will not answer to requests concerning the use of a software FTP and no confirmation of reception of file could be delivered.
