History

The Journalism Award is the result of many exciting partnerships: of those who perform, of those who create conditions for the award to happen, and of those who tell the history of the development of our country. Created in 2001, the award was introduced to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Massey Ferguson in Brazil and highlight the talent and dedication of the professionals who register through the media as well as the history of Brazilian agriculture and the development of the rural sector every day.

The award started with three categories - print (which includes newspapers and magazines), radio, and TV. In the second edition, the Internet category was added and the print category was expanded into two: newspaper and magazine. From the third year on, to appropriately reward the talent of those who know how to look and capture the work of the man in the field, the Award´s categories were further increased to a total of six, including the category of Photojournalism. In the 10th edition, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of Massey Ferguson presence in Brazil, the award had a special category and the inclusion of the Student category, with a prize of R$ 5,000. In 2012, the Journalism Award reinvented itself; besides prizes of R$ 10,000 for the winners of the existing categories, there also was the Mercosul category, which awarded the winner (plus companion) with a trip to Rio de Janeiro. In the 12th edition, the second and third place were honored with a tablet and a digital camera respectively. In the same year, the Internet category was renamed to "Multimedia", valuing the interactive capabilities of the published contents.

Every year, the Award attracts a higher number of entries and participating states. In its first edition it only had 34 entries; by 2013 that number already rose to almost 300. The high number of participants makes the Journalism Award even more of a symbol of recognition for journalism talent in the Brazilian agribusiness. The winners are elected by the Judging Committee according to their production, research, interviewed sources, relevance, and scope of the topic. Thus, Massey Ferguson fulfills its role of encouraging professionals to publish topics related to the rural sector and to the Brazilian agriculture, emphasizing the importance of issues that directly or indirectly involve the development of the economy and the society.

Awrads

For this edition, the contest has announced an increase of 50% in its award. The first place in each category (Newspaper, Magazine, Multimedia, TV, Photojournalism) will receive R$15 thousand, the second place will win a tablet and the third place a smartphone. The winner in the Student category will take home R$7 thousand, while the South America, Central America, and the Caribbean category winner will enjoy a trip for two to Porto de Galinhas (Pernambuco state).
