About the Mpls Photo Center
The Mpls Photo Center is where photo professionals and enthusiasts alike come together to work and learn, to discover and experience, to create, exhibit and become members of this unique community dedicated to photography and all its media and processes.
From our state-of-the-art digital lab, studio bays and spacious darkrooms to our member exhibition spaces, renowned Artist Talks, and numerous classes and workshops designed for all ages and covering all aspects of photography, Mpls Photo Center is here to challenge, encourage and inspire the photographer in all of us.
The Center was created and exists to foster community and enrichment opportunities among local and regional photography enthusiasts, including both amateur and professional photographers. We provide dedicated spaces - physical as well as online - to our members for use in their individual photographic pursuits, as well as in our shared desire to preserve, reinvigorate and enjoy traditional forms of photography while embracing technologies of the future in support of creativity and lifelong learning.
Center members meet, socialize, and share work both online via our interactive social media site and seven days a week in our many studio spaces, labs and wi-fi access. This combination of online interaction and real-world contact creates a real and powerful sense of community among members.
About the Call For Entry
We all have those special places in times, locations, that exist in the back of our minds. Show us a place you see when you close your eyes before you sleep. Show us a place you have seen that makes your heart skip a beat, gets your adrenaline running and pumping makes you want to be "there" and keeps you longing for more.
These locations can be from your favorite childhood playground, your favorite vacation getaway and even your secluded mediative background oasis. Show us your destinations and adventures.
About the Juror Layne Kennedy
Educated in fine art photography, Layne is known for his editorial photography that conveys a strong sense of place. His images are featured in magazines worldwide on subjects as varied as Pink Dolphins in the Amazon River to traveling with Polar Inuit hunters by dogsled.
His feature work appears regularly in Smithsonian, LIFE, Audubon, Islands, Sports Illustrated, Terre Sauvage, Nature Conservancy, Newsweek , National Geographic Traveler, National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Outdoor Explorer, GEO, Forbes, Business Week and other magazines.
He has contributed to numerous books for several publishers, including the National Geographic Society, The Nature Conservancy, W.W. Norton, NorthWord Press, Lerner, Sterling, Knopf Greystone, Rodale, Insight Guides, McMillan, Invisible Press, Discovery, and Voyageur Press. He photographed a book on Great Lakes States for the National Geographic Society. Another book on the Apostle Islands Jewel's On The Water-Lake Superior’s Apostle Islands. Regional books include; Minnesota; Now & Then for Voyageur Press and A Hard Water World-Ice Fishing And Why We Do It for the Minnesota Historical Society Press. And just released for the MHSP, PADDLE NORTH-CANOEING THE BWCA-QUETICO WILDERNESS.
His image files are diverse with collections featuring the Great Plains, Iceland, Greenland, Amazon River, the Caribbean, North American fossils & dinosaurs, Wind Power, North American Ecosystems, Wildflowers, Amber, Finland, American Prairie, Desert SW, Grand Canyon, White-Water Rafting, Great Lakes States, Alaska, Wolves and Wolf Research, Dogsledding, Conservation, to name a few.
