Nurturing the next generation of conductors

David Zinman founded the American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music festival in 2000. «We all paid attention in the world when David created it because it was a beautiful thing he did.» says conductor Robert Spano. David Zinman’s passion is the nurturing of young talent, which shows in his commitment as a conducting teacher.
In the summer of 2010, he launched the International Conducting Master Class as part of the Zurich Festival. More than 100 aspiring conductors apply for the course each year.

Profile of Participants

•  Advanced professional conducting students and professional conductors (symphony and opera)
• Age limit:  must not be older than age 38 (at class date)

Selection of Participants

The course management will select 8 final candidates upon receipt of the application documents. These results will be announced in the week December 19th – 23rd 2016.
These chosen conductors will work on the first day of the class under the direction of David Zinman with two pianos and the soloist in an intimate and intensive rehearsal. In the following course days, the 8 candidates will rehearse with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich under the direction of David Zinman.

Course fee: The course fee for active participants is CHF 600; the course fee for auditors is CHF 100.
Course language: The Master Class will be given in English.
Travel:
Travel costs must be covered by each participant.
Accommodation:
Accommodation costs must be covered by each participant. The Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich can assist in finding accommodation.
Meals:
All meals must be paid by the participant.
Scores:
Each participant must procure his/her own scores.
Scholarship
: There is the possibility to apply for a scholarship for the chosen candidates. More information will be given after the final selection.
VISA: Each participant is responsible for their VISA entry to Switzerlan.
