Online Winter School - Modelling Hydrology and Global Change, 10-14 January 2022

Publish Date: Jul 25, 2021

Deadline: Sep 30, 2021

Event Dates: from Jan 10, 2022 12:00 to Jan 14, 2022 12:00

Modelling Hydrology and Global Change

  • Course dates: Monday 10th to Friday 14th January 2022
  • Location: Online event
  • Eligibility: The course is open to all, including students (undergraduate, graduate or postdoctoral), professionals and researchers during a career break.
  • Other costs: No course fees will be charged to any students receiving a place on the course (whether UK or international).
  • Organisers: Toby Marthews and Marcia Spencer (on behalf of the Hydro-JULES Steering Committee)

The UK Hydro-JULES programme will host up to 20 students for a 5-day online Winter School in 2022. The intention is to train undergraduate, post-graduate, early-career and other international junior scientists from the fields of water and the environment, land surface science, water resources, ecology, hydrometeorology, biogeochemistry and other related research areas concerned with the delivery of next-generation land-surface and hydrological predictions.

Overall learning objectives of the Winter School

  • To develop a sense of the underpinning principles in modelling hydrological systems at large catchment, continental, and global scales.
  • To acquire the necessary technical skill to run JULES and standalone Hydro-JULES tools in order to investigate hydrological processes under current and future scenarios.
  • To understand how to use the technical features built in Hydro-JULES for collaboration in scientific projects.

Applications to the programme are not yet open.

Background

The UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) is a world-class research organisation focusing on land and freshwater ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere.

Hydro-JULES is a NERC-funded research programme which will build a three-dimensional community model of the terrestrial water cycle to underpin hydrological research in the United Kingdom (delivered by UKCEH in partnership with BGS and NCAS).
