PhD Studentship in Russian, Soviet, post-Soviet and Eurasian studies

The School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham invites applications for PhD studentships through the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership. The Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership offers high-quality supervision and exceptional resources, as well as the expertise of a broad portfolio of Strategic Partners for the training and development of outstanding Arts and Humanities postgraduate researchers.

Russian studies at Durham welcome applications from outstanding candidates who can demonstrate evidence of academic excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as evidence of sufficient research skills to undertake the project on a subject from a variety of disciplinary domains in Russian, Slavonic, Soviet, or post-Soviet study ranging from 18th century studies to contemporary visual culture. Our panel welcomes proposals for cross-disciplinary projects that seek to engage more than one period or discipline in modern languages, arts & humanities and/or social sciences.

New this year are the Northern Bridge Partnership Awards, which are designed to offer our PhD researchers an opportunity to develop and pursue their project in collaboration with one of Northern Bridge's Strategic Partners.

The award will cover tuition fees and provide a maintenance grant at the RCUK national rate for UK applicants. They normally cover tuition fees only for EU students; however, institutional funds permitting, we also expect to make maintenance awards to EU students. If you wish to be considered for Northern Bridge AHRC funding for a PhD in Russian, Slavonic and Eurasian studies, you must have made an on-line application for a PhD place at Durham by 5pm on Monday 11th January 2017. In order for application to be ready by that date, candidates are strongly advised to liaise with their prospective supervisor(s) on all aspects of application ahead that date.

Initial enquires related to any aspect of the application process may be sent to Dr Dušan Radunović, Durham University contact for Russian studies, at dusan.radunovic@durham.ac.uk
