Publish Date: May 10, 2016

Deadline: Jun 10, 2016

The 14th International Symposium on Nuclei in the Cosmos (NIC-XIV) will be held at Toki Messe in Niigata City, Japan, from June 19 through 24, 2016. Nuclei in the Cosmos is the foremost bi-annual symposium of nuclear physics, astrophysics, astronomy, cosmo-chemistry, and other related fields that started from Wien in Austria in 1990. NIC-XIV is jointly organized by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) and the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science. It is sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), and supported by several institutions.

On-line abstract submission starts from December 16, 2015. Important dates are listed at the end of this circular.

The subjects to be discussed in NIC-XIV 2016 Symposium will include:

  • Big-Bang Cosmology, Nucleosynthesis, Dark Matter, and Dark Energy
  • First Generations of Stars and Galactic Chemo-Dynamical Evolution
  • Stellar Evolution and Hydrostatic Nuclear Burning Processes
  • Explosive Nucleosynthesis in Stars
  • Supernovae, Gamma-Ray Bursts and Mergers
  • Novae and X-Ray Bursts
  • Neutron Stars and Hadron Physics
  • Meteoritic Abundances, Interstellar Gas and Dust Astronomy
  • X- and γ-Ray Astronomy and Cosmic Ray Astrophysics
  • Neutrino Astrophysics and Weak Processes
  • Radioactive Nuclei Far From Stability
  • Nuclear Theory in Astrophysics
  • Nuclear Experiments in Astrophysics
  • Nuclear Data and Astrophysics
  • New Facilities in Nuclear Astrophysics and Astronomy

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Abstract submission: December 16, 2015 – January 31, 2016
  • Oral presentation notification: Mid-March, 2016
  • Early registration: January 15, 2016 – May 10, 2016

REGISTRATION, FEES, and ABSTRACT

The details of the call for abstracts, the instructions for abstract submission, the registration fees for the symposium, and the instructions for their payment will be announced in the second circular and will be posted on the symposium web site.

NIC SCHOOL

A NIC School will be held at Niigata University prior to the symposium for graduate students and young postdocs. The school will provide lectures on basics and the current subjects in nuclear astrophysics. The NIC School provides good opportunity for the participants to present and discuss their works, too. The details will be announced in the forthcoming circular and on the symposium web site.

SYMPOSIUM SCHEDULE

NIC-XIV starts from June 19, 2016 with a welcome reception, followed by invited and contributed presentations from June 20 through 24, 2015. Poster sessions will also be held.

SYMPOSIUM VENUE AND ACCESS

The symposium will take place at Toki Messe in Niigata City, the capital of Niigata Prefecture, with population of 800,000. It is located about 350 km north from Tokyo and it takes two hours from Tokyo Station by bullet train on the Joetsu Shinkansen line. Niigata can be also accessed by airplane. It takes one hour from Osaka and Nagoya. Also Niigata has daily flights to/from Seoul, Korea.

OTHER SATELLITE ACTIVITIES

Several satellite workshops will be held before or after the symposium. Their details will be posted soon in the NIC-XIV webpage.
