It is positioned in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (also known as the Shanghai Ranking) as the 69th best university. 

With an average acceptance rate of 24% for international students, Stockholm University is known to be one of the top 100 universities globally that teaches English courses while enabling its students to fully emerge into the Swedish language and culture.

What can I study at Stockholm University?

Stockholm University offers a variety of courses in 8 main areas of study, each of which consists of dozens of academic programs available for you to choose your preferred one from. The areas include:

How to apply?

While the average 24% might sound attractive for the applicants, there are certain requirements they must meet as part of their application process. Here are the steps you need to complete to apply to SU.

  1. Select the course or program you want to pursue at the university.

  2. Make sure you meet both the general entry requirements of the university and the specific requirements for your preferred course. 

  3. Apply to the university online through the University Admissions Website of Sweden by submitting the necessary documents and paying the application fee

English language requirement 

As part of your application, you should introduce proof of proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary school course English 6. Learn more about how you can satisfy the English language proficiency requirement

Student life at Stockholm University 

Housing for International and Exchange Students 

Stockholm University rents apartments and housing areas from other landlords in Stockholm to provide its international students with housing accommodation. Exchange students are also provided with housing. If you are an international or an exchange student applying to Stockholm university, you can find and fill in the application details here.

Student Services and Information Center 

If you want to have a tour around the campus, the info center of the university is located in the Studenthuset building of the campus and is available for visitors from Monday to Friday 10 am - 11 am and 2 pm - 3 pm.  

The Academic Writing Service, the Career Service, and the Admissions Office are located in Studenthuset, too. 

Student Clubs and Unions

The Frescati Sports Center of Stockholm University offers sports activities in yoga, football, tennis, dance, martial arts, gymnastics, and much more. You may also book courts for badminton, table tennis, floorball, football, etc. 

Tuition, Funding and Scholarships 

Tuition 

The citizens of countries outside of the European Union, European Economic Area and Switzerland are required to pay an application fee and tuition fees. 

The application fee costs 900 SEK. Students pay an application fee for each semester they submit an application for. 

The tuition varies depending on the course you are choosing. It starts from 90,000 SEK for Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Law, and reaches to 140,000 SEK for Sciences. Learn the tuition for the program you are considering enrolling in

Living Costs 

Stockholm University has estimated an average living cost of 8,568 SEK per month for each student. This calculation includes costs covering food, accommodation, local travel, phone and internet, and miscellaneous. 

As mentioned earlier, you can get a discount on public transportation, local restaurants, and some other services if you are a member of the Stockholm University Student Union. 

Scholarships 

At Stockholm University, only students pursuing their Master’s degree are eligible for a scholarship. In addition to that, there are other criteria the students are required to meet in order to be eligible for a scholarship. 

  • They have to be a citizen from a country outside EU/EEA/Switzerland.

  • They have to be admitted to a Master’s Program at SU in the first admission round. 

Swedish Institute Scholarships 

The Swedish Institute offers annual scholarships to international students. Only students from selected countries are eligible to obtain this scholarship.
