Centre for European Studies

The Center for European Studies (CES) at the Yerevan State University is an educational and scientific research center, which was founded in July 2006 in the result of the productive collaboration of the Yerevan State University and the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia and is funded by the annual financial support provided by the State Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia. The integral part of the CES is the implementation and realization of research activities. The Center coordinates and carries out scientific and interdisciplinary researches related to the EU, EU and Armenia, the cooperation and separate issues of the EU and South Caucasus. To increase the productivity of implemented researches to the international level some research activities are translated into English. Programs: Since 2008 the Center has carried out «European Studies» interdisciplinary Master’s Programme. During the programme students are offered various courses referring to the 21st century EU and Armenia economy, policy, legal system, human rights, European integration and cooperation, European security and defense policy, and other European structures. Since September 2010 in the «List of the RA higher educational professions», the new “European Studies” profession was added. In 2010 «European Integration and South Caucasus» Jean Monnet Module was founded. The Module incorporates three courses which are taught within the European Studies Master’s Programme. The modules are: Introduction to European Integration, European Security and Defense Policy, European Neighbourhood Policy. Since 2011 with the assistance of European Committee the CES implements «Human Rights and Democratization» interdisciplinary Regional Master’s Programme. It is offered by the a consortium of four universities and the participating universities are Yerevan State University, Taras Schevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, Belarusian State University and the University of Political and Economic European Studies in Moldova. The programme provides students with comprehensive knowledge in the sphere of human rights and democratization. It envisages students’ mobility and lecturers’ exchange, study visits to EU institutions, internships in participating countries. The duration f the programme is two years.
