University of Twente Postdoctoral Research Fellowships on Numerical Modelling of Resin Injection Pultrusion Process 2017, Netherlands

Publish Date: Feb 16, 2017

Deadline: Feb 28, 2017

POSTDOC/RESEARCHER POSITION ON NUMERICAL MODELLING OF RESIN INJECTION PULTRUSION PROCESS

This project focuses on modelling the multi-physics in resin injection pultrusion (RIP) of complex industrial profiles. The goal of the project is to develop multi-physics models which can realistically address the most important process challenges in pultrusion of fiber reinforced polymer composites. Application of these models successfully in an industrial setting will enable to simulate and subsequently optimize a real RIP process.

Within this project, you will perform necessary experiments and analyses to characterize the polymer material for the process modelling. You will develop constitutive material models for the processing polymer and fiber reinforced composite profile, e.g. viscoelastic constitutive model in order to capture the stress relaxation in the rubbery state of the polymer. Therefore, you should have an interest in numerical modelling and should possess good analytical and experimental skills. We prefer candidates with good team spirit, who like to work in an internationally oriented environment.

You will report on your research in regular project meetings. You are expected to present your results at international scientific conferences and publish them in academic literature.

The project  will be executed at the chair of Production Technology which is a part of the faculty of Engineering Technology of the University of Twente. You will be part of the Mechanics of Solids, Surfaces and Systems (MS3) department, a team of approximately 75 academics and PhD’s which deal with the topics solid mechanics, tribology, production and system engineering. Prof.dr.ir. Remko Akkerman holds the chair of Production Technology within MS3.

YOUR PROFILE

We are looking for highly motivated researchers with a PhD or MSc degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline with excellent experimental and theoretical skills and affinity with numerical process modelling. You have experience with programming languages like Fortran or C++, scripting languages like Python or mathematical computing environments like Matlab or software packages like ABAQUS and ANSYS. Knowledge of fiber reinforced polymer composites and their manufacturing processes would be advantageous. Expertise in constitutive modelling and experimental material characterization of polymers/composites are preferred.

We expect a creative person that shows self-initiative with a hands-on mentality and independent team-oriented style of working. The candidate should have good communication skills backed with a good command of the English language, both spoken and written

INFORMATION AND APPLICATION

The project will be conducted under the supervision of Dr.ir. Ismet Baran.

Your application should consist of:

  • a cover letter (maximum 1 page A4), emphasizing your specific interest, qualifications and motivations to apply for this position;
  • a full Curriculum Vitae, including a list of all courses attended and grades obtained;
  • a short description (maximum 1 page A4) of your MSc or PhD research;
  • contact details of at least two references who worked closely with you
  • if applicable – a list of publications
