Associate Professor or Professor of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry

Salary: £45,562 - £61,179 p.a. (plus substantial additional benefits as detailed below and in the job description). An allowance of £2,655 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title

Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor (or Professor) of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry. The successful candidate will also be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship at Merton College under arrangements described in the Job Description and Person Specification.

Salary on a scale from £45,562 p.a. plus substantial additional benefits including: a college household allowance of £10,000 p.a.; or single accommodation in college free of rent with a residence allowance of £1,256 p.a.; or housing near college free of rent for the first 5 years with a household allowance of £2,512 p.a., and in addition access to a mortgage loan scheme.

A health insurance scheme for the Fellow and family members is also available as detailed below. An allowance of £2,655 p.a. would be payable upon award of full Professor title.

Applications are invited from those with research interests in all areas of physical and theoretical/computational chemistry and its boundaries with other disciplines. Preference may be given to those undertaking experimental programmes of research.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in physical and/or theoretical chemistry or a related field, and have a proven track record of high-quality research and publication at an internationally excellent standard, along with evidence of imaginative research plans and the potential to lead and manage new research initiatives.

The postholder will be required to engage in original research within the field of physical chemistry (interpreted broadly) and/or theoretical chemistry and/or boundaries with other disciplines; to secure research funding, and to carry out teaching and demonstrating at undergraduate and graduate level.

The post is available from September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
