Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Language Technology

A position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Language Technology is available at the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo. The postdoctoral fellowship is for a duration of three years and is hosted at the IFI Language Technology Group. No postdoctoral fellow can be appointed for more than one specified period at the same institution.

Description:

The position is funded by the BIGMED project, a NRC-funded Lighthouse project, which aims to develop a big data solution that integrates patients' health record information with genomics data. The BIGMED consortium consists of a multidisciplinary team of ICT researchers, biomedical researchers and industrial partners. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for the language technology research conducted in the BIGMED project, which has as its goal to enable information extraction from Norwegian electronic health records. We seek a highly motivated researcher with a track-record in Natural Language Processing (NLP). The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate broad knowledge of core NLP tasks, like tagging, parsing, named entity recognition, etc. Implementation experience and programming skills will also be given weight. Background from biomedical or clinical NLP will be an advantage, although not a requirement. The position presupposes a PhD degree or equivalent in Natural Language Processing, or in Computer Science with a clearly NLP-based thesis. Basic understanding of Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) is a requirement.

Qualifications

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in Natural Language Processing.

The main purpose of postdoctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.

Salary:

Position code 1352, NOK 512 700 – 567 100 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority.
