Andrew Grant Postgraduate Scholarships
Scholarships available for postgraduate study within the Edinburgh College of Art. Scholarship awards vary from £5,000 to £15,000 and are tenable for one academic year.
Andrew Grant, born 1830 in Leith, was an established international business man, liberal politician, landowner and an alumnus of the University of Edinburgh. Between 1907 and 1909, he gifted £10,000 towards the construction of the new Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) and left around £350,000 to The Andrew Grant Bequest, to benefit students of the college which it continues to do.
Our Schools offer a rich and vibrant postgraduate community with a broad range of postgraduate programmes and academic research interests. ECA is now inviting applications from postgraduate applicants/students as per the agreed strategy for each of the five ECA Schools listed below:
School of Art: One scholarship of £15,000 is available to new and currently on-programme PG research students (PhD, MPhil, MSc by Research). Applications for full-time and part-time study will be considered. Current on-programme students must be within their prescribed period of study in 2017-2018. Scholarship application deadline is 1 February 2017.
School of Design: Three scholarships of £5,000 are available to currently on-programme PG taught students (MA, MFA). Applications for full-time and part-time study will be considered. Current on-programme students must be within their prescribed period of study in 2017-2018. Scholarship application deadline is 1 March 2017.
Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA): Three scholarships of £5,000 are available to new and currently on-programme PG taught students (MSc, MArch, MLA, MA, MFA). Applications for full-time and part-time study will be considered. Current on-programme students must be within their prescribed period of study in 2017-2018. Scholarship application deadline is 1 March 2017.
School of History of Art: One scholarship of £15,000 is available to new and currently on-programme PG research students (PhD, MPhil, MSc by Research). Applications for full-time and part-time study will be considered. Current on-programme students must be within their prescribed period of study in 2017-2018. Scholarship application deadline is 1 February 2017.
Reid School of Music: Three scholarships of £5,000 are available to new and currently on-programme PG taught students (MSc, MMus). Applications for full-time and part-time study will be considered. Current on-programme students must be within their prescribed period of study in 2017-2018. Scholarship application deadline is 1 March 2017.
Scholarship award holders are expected to be energetic members of our postgraduate community, and will have opportunities to present their work to the wider student and staff body during the period covered by their award. We offer our postgraduates a range of training and development opportunities appropriate to their programme of study.
Awards
These awards will be tenable for one academic year and will be deducted from your tuition fee with any remaining funds being awarded towards living costs.
Eligibility
If wishing to commence a new PG research programme of study ((PhD, MPhil, MSc by Research) in session 2017/18 you must ensure that you have fully completed and submitted your PG programme application for admission using the University's online system by no later than 25 January 2017.
If wishing to commence a new PG taught programme of study (MSc, MArch, MLA, MA, MFA, MMus) in session 2017/18 you must ensure that you have fully completed and submitted your PG programme application for admission using the University's online system by no later than 25 February 2017.
Scholarship applications from prospective students which are not supported by a fully completed PG programme application and not submitted by the deadlines above will not be considered for funding.
Please note: if successful in obtaining full funding from any other University of Edinburgh or Research Council funding sources, recipients of the Andrew Grant PG Scholarship must relinquish their Andrew Grant PG Scholarship.
