Salary: £45,562 - £61,179 p.a. plus substantial benefits, including an additional salary payment of £2,655 for those awarded the title of full Professor, and free single accommodation in college if available, eligibility to bid to occupy a college property for a specified period if available, or a taxable and pensionable housing allowance expected to be in the region of £12,000 p.a.

Start date: 1 October 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Balliol College, Oxford, Brasenose College, Oxford, and the Faculty of History, University of Oxford, propose, if a suitable candidate applies, to appoint to an Official (Tutorial) Fellowship in History, in association with an Associate Professorship or Professorship of Early Medieval History (pre-1000) of the British Isles, with effect from 1 October 2017. This is a permanent position. Applications are invited from candidates with major research interests in the Early Medieval History of the British Isles, in their full ethnic and political diversity. The successful candidate will provide teaching in Early Medieval History and will engage in scholarly research and publication. Candidates must hold a doctorate. Candidates need to demonstrate an outstanding level of research and excellence, or the potential for excellence, in teaching; be able to participate effectively in the running and development of the subject at faculty level, and in college and faculty administration; and have participated in conferences, seminars, and other research meetings.
