The course sets out to support participants to develop the tools for inter-cultural learning, while understand how to develop empathy and how to be effective in cross-cultural communication. We believe having such competencies is what is now needed to be an active European Citizen.

Developing Cultural Competency is a short training course funded by the Erasmus + programme that support those engaged in both formal and non-formal education projects at the international level. It supports participants to develop a working praxis (integration of theory and practice) for this type of work.

The course sets out to support participants to develop the tools for inter-cultural learning, while understand how to develop empathy and how to be effective in cross-cultural communication. We believe having such competencies is what is now needed to be an active European Citizen. The course will look at cultural learning from a variety of view points, National Identity, Religion, Ethnicity, Multiculturalism, Historical, shared Ideologies, Social Constructionism, Ethics and Philosophies. The course aims to share about the rights and opportunities European citizens have, while exploring the benefits of further international cooperations and relations.

This project will be set amongst one of the oldest cultures in Europe (Wales). As well as engaging within the topic of culture. As well as engaging from your own reality, you will learn how the Welsh culture has maintained its survival while also allowing for inclusion on other cultures and nations within its nation.

  • By the end of the course participants will be able to:
  • Understand how to dissect and develop empathy for others cultures
  • Learn the skills of cross-cultural communication
  • Develop a basic understanding of the different faiths and beliefs in Europe and what there practices are
  • Explore the concept of being an active citizen and what this means at the level of the EU level
  • Learn how to develop further partnerships within Europe and acquire funding to develop project
  • Understand how diversity and multiculturalism have positive effects for the continent
  • Explore national identity and race and ethnicity
  • Develop a higher sense of empathy
  • Gain an overview of the history of Europe and it’s journey towards the Union

Participant’s profile:
This project is open for a range of participants from across all sectors, however the ideal candidate are youth workers, leaders and those who will continue to be active at the European level and can be multipliers of the project. The project is also suitable for those looking to engage in a longer-term international project, whether that be taking on EVS, studying on an Erasmus scholarship or moving to work within another country within Europe.

To deliver this project, Act Global CIC works with partner organisation from across Europe who support us in each of the countries to identify potential participants who would benefit the most from this project. On this course the partner organisations are:

Selected participants will need to commit to participating in the full project (from 16-23 Dec 2016).

This project is co-funded by the European Commission. Act Global CIC as a host organisation will cover the training activities, accommodation and full meals for the whole week.
