The Nils Klim Prize 2017 For Young Scholars

The Nils Klim Prize is awarded annually to a younger Nordic researcher who has made an outstanding contribution to research in the arts and humanities, social science, law or theology. 

The Holberg board is now accepting nominations for the Nils Klim Prize 2017. The prize is awarded to young Nordic scholars under the age of 35 for outstanding contributions to research within the arts and humanities, social sciences, law and theology.

The Nils Klim Prize was established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2003 and is awarded annually. The Prize for 2017 amounts to 300,000 NOK (approximately 32,000 EUR / 35,000 USD*). The prize winner will be announced in March 2017, and the award ceremony will take place in Bergen, Norway in June 2017.

The Nils Klim Prize is awarded to a Nordic researcher who has made an outstanding contribution to research in the arts and humanities, social science, law or theology. The prize may be awarded both for work within a particular academic discipline and for work of a interdisciplinary nature. Particular importance will be attached to the researcher´s originality and innovative ability. It should also be considered whether the research contribution in question appears as particularly outstanding or promising in light of the researcher´s age, the nature of the research project and the research tradition in the academic field in question.

The Holberg Board awards the Prize at the recommendation of the Nils Klim Committee. The function of the nomination is to make the Committee aware of the candidate’s work.

Eligibility

Scholars holding positions at universities and other research institutions, including academies, are entitled to nominate candidates to the Prize. The letter of nomination should be written in English and state the reason for the nomination in 2 to 3 pages. The nomination should include the candidate's CV, list of publications, doctoral thesis and other significant publications It should also suggest referees who know the scholar’s work. Candidates must be under the age of 35 on the closing date for nominations. Please note that time spent on parental leave can be deducted from the candidate age. Nominations are strictly confidential and should not be disclosed to the nominee or to others at any time.
