Summer School - Alternative Dispute Resolution, 27 June - 8 July 2016, Hungary

Publish Date: Jan 27, 2016

Deadline: Feb 14, 2016

Event Dates: from Jun 27, 2016 12:00 to Jul 08, 2016 12:00

Increasingly, around the world, individuals are exploring means of resolving their differences prior to or instead of pursuing traditional court proceedings.  In many jurisdictions, the court may require litigants to attempt to resolve their dispute through an alternative process prior to obtaining access to the court system.  Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is the umbrella term for a wide-range of processes which includes negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and restorative justice. This summer CEU offers students an opportunity to learn the skills necessary to be effective as a negotiator and mediator.  Negotiation and mediation skills are useful to every person in virtually every profession because we all negotiate every day both personally and professionally, both for ourselves and others.

The ADR Summer School at CEU provides students with several options to further their understanding and skill development in the foundations of dispute resolution. Students may complete either of two stand-alone programs: a one week negotiation course or a one week mediation course. Or, students may opt to complete the negotiation course in week one and the mediation course in week two. Since mediation is often defined as a facilitated negotiation, this sequence will provide students with a more nuanced understanding of negotiation on which to build their mediation skills. Finally, students may opt to complete an advanced international business negotiation course via distance learning through Hamline University after having completed the negotiation course (either in addition to or instead of the mediation course). Students who complete this distance learning course (along with the negotiation course at CEU) will earn a Certificate in International Business Negotiation from Hamline University School of Law. CEU’s special Alternative Dispute Resolution Summer School provides several options for participation. Students may attend:
  1. International Business Negotiation (1 week in-residence at CEU)
  2. Mediation Theory and Skills (1 week in residence at CEU)
  3. International Business Negotiation and Mediation Theory and Skills (2 weeks total in residence at CEU)
  4. International Business Negotiation (1 week in-residence at CEU) and Advanced International Business Negotiation (3.5 weeks on-line distance learning which can be completed anywhere one has access to an internet connection) earning the Certificate in International Business Negotiation from Hamline University School of Law.
  5. International Business Negotiation, Advanced International Business Negotiation, and Mediation Theory and Skills (2 weeks in-residence at CEU plus 3.5 weeks on-line distance learning course which can be completed anywhere one has access to an internet connection)
