Facebook is looking to scale to the next billion users and needs the Infrastructure to support it. The “Infra Strategy” team is chartered with providing independent analysis to achieve the optimal value for most Infrastructure costs. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Facebook, highly analytical, have strong mathematical aptitude and can leverage tremendous amounts of data to drive cost effective decision making as well as strategic efforts. In this role you will work cross functionally with key internal Infrastructure and Finance teams to combine data and business principles, data collection and quality, trend analysis, root cause of issues, and drive improvements. Successful candidates for this team have a bias toward action, enjoy finding patterns amid chaos, making quick decisions, and are up for a challenge.

Responsibilities

  • Accept the freedom to create and drive impact for Facebook
  • Leverage tools like SQL, Hadoop, R, PHP, Python, Oracle, Java, and Excel to drive efficient analytics and reporting or performing data extraction from mysql/oracle/hive leveraging an extremely large data set
  • Focus on collecting, parsing, managing, analyzing and visualizing large sets of data to turn information into insights using multiple platforms
  • Work with internal technical operations teams to define metrics, automate data collection, synthesize relevant data, build analytical models and forecasts
  • Create and manage failure and/or trend analysis
  • Create and/or assist in the development of tools or data dashboards that drive efficiency

Requirements

  • Pursuing a BA/BS degree
  • Strong in statistics fundamentals, set theory and relational algebra required
  • Experience of 4+ years of programming
  • Proficiency in SQL is required
  • Experience with at least 1 scripting language(C++, JAVA, PHP, PERL, PYTHON etc.) required
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability with experience providing practical business insights from large, complex data sets required
  • Understanding Datawarehousing concepts, ETL, OLAP vs. OLTP, Slowly Changing Dimensions a big plus
  • Reporting / Dashboarding with any BI tool (Microstrategy, Tableau, Business Objects etc.) a plus
  • Proficient in designing efficient and robust ETL workflows desired
  • Provide strong interpersonal skills while acting under diverse roles: liaison, consultant, leader, peer, owner, customer, etc.
  • Experience in Technical Operations or hardware that supports a large scale website beneficial
  • Able to work in an extremely high volume, high energy environment
