Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel Weatherill will open the Conference.

The Conference is open to all LJMU staff, students and collaborative partner institutions. Additionally we warmly invite all colleagues working in post-16 education to attend; this is a FREE event.

Call for Papers

Now in its sixteenth year, LJMU’s annual Teaching and Learning Conference provides an exciting forum to share and discuss innovative and effective teaching, learning and assessment practices and research. On the theme of ‘Visions for Learning’, this two-day event will showcase the work of academic and professional service staff and students across a range of higher education teaching and learning topics. These include the use of interactive teaching methods, learning technologies and creative approaches to curriculum, teaching or assessment design.

The theme has been especially chosen and reflects sectoral challenges in supporting an increasingly diverse student body; ‘Visions for Learning’ also coincides with the launch of the new LJMU Teaching, Learning and Assessment Strategy (2017-22).

Organised by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), Professor Peter Byers, with LJMU’s Teaching and Learning Academy, the Conference will be hosted by the Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies at the Redmonds Building. It is open to all LJMU staff, students and collaborative partner institutions. Additionally we warmly invite all colleagues working in post-16 education to attend and to submit abstracts. There is no charge for attending the Conference.

Submission

The submission process is open to all LJMU staff, students and collaborative partner institutions as well as any colleagues working in post-16 education.

We are eagerly seeking submissions, both short presentations and posters, on teaching innovations, interventions and practice that enhance learning, or that debate current issues in higher education teaching. We particularly welcome presentations from, or partnership with, students or cross-school/faculty/institutional collaborations.

Please note, owing to the volume of interest, a submission does not guarantee a place on the programme. In addition to the quality of the submission, offers to present will be prioritised based on a combination of any of the following:

  • a clear link to the Conference theme of 'Visions for Learning'
  • outcomes from University-funded Curriculum Enhancement Projects, Internships and Teaching and Learning Awards
  • the use of students as partners in research activity
  • clear interest or transferability across disciplines
  • approaches to support the inclusion and achievement of underrepresented groups
  • use of the student voice to enhance the learning experience
  • initiatives for engaging students in classroom activity
  • interesting and effective use of technology to engage students on and off campus
